Lucky Girl Syndrome: The Observer Effect

“Out of sight, out of mind.” We’re all familiar with this phrase- especially those of us who have ADHD and can hyper focus on a special interest for hours, days, or weeks at time as we tune the rest of the world out. 

Even if you’re not a neuro-spicy girlie, I’m sure you can recall at least one or two occasions where you were thinking of something or someone- and suddenly that person would call you or you’d see the thing you were thinking of seemingly pop up out of nowhere. You’d say “hey, you were just on my mind!” and chalk it up to the silly little coincidence of the day- but have you ever pondered on the true power of awareness? According to neuroscientists, our thoughts are the universal powerhouse of our reality.

In a time of increasingly intelligent algorithms, hyper realistic filters, and light-speed cellular communication- you’d think we know a lot more about the way our own brains and bodies work. As a science nerd, I’ve always had a deep love for the secrets of the human body- but as a fellow member of GenX, I’ve become a bit concerned about how much space technology takes up in our daily lives, and how out of touch we’ve become with the basic functions and capabilities of our body. Because of this, I’ve been on a personal journey to understanding the miraculous power of the mind and how to experience it at its fullest potential. Along this journey, my favorite mind-theory so far is known as The Observer Effect. 

During the pandemic, I had nothing but time on my hands and boredom on my mind- and I had become deeply interested in the study of manifestation. I watched every YouTube video about the Law of Attraction and devoted much of my time to practicing mindfulness so that I could create the life of my dreams. If you’re not familiar with some of the most popular manifestation coaches like Abraham Hicks, Neville Goddard, Bob Proctor, Dr. Joe Dispenza, or Florence Schoval-Shinn- their teachings all boil down to the same thing: imagination is the true reality. Essentially, what we can picture in our mind, can become real. More importantly, anything  that we project a keen sense of focus on with a charged intention is magnetized to us. The Observer Effect is the perfect way to describe why and how this happens- and how you can create the life of your dreams with a set intention and uninterrupted attention. 

In it’s simplest terms, The Observer Effect is a theory that states that the universe is made up of nothing but atoms -and when an atom is being observed- it behaves exactly how you want it to. But when you take your attention away from the atom- it essentially does not even exist. 

This study was tested by quantum physicists who wanted to understand the role that atoms and electrons play in our reality. You may have known that atoms are the building blocks of reality, but did you know that the thoughts we think are electrically charged? These electromagnetic thoughts that we think make connections to the world around us, acting like magnets to physical objects that vibrate at the same frequency as the thought itself. For example, you’re thinking about how you’d like some chocolate cake on your way to work. You can taste the sweet notes of rich chocolate fudge, wrapped around 3 moist layers of a soft, decadent center. Your tummy grumbles and your saliva production intensifies as you imagine yourself taking slow bites of this delicious cake after work. You head to work and are shocked to see that it’s your coworkers birthday, and the office is throwing her a small birthday surprise with chocolate cake for everyone to enjoy. Is manifestation that simple? Technically, yes! As the legendary manifestation teacher Neville Goddard says: “feeling is the secret”. When you can focus your awareness on the intense feeling of the thing that you desire, you send the electromagnetic waves of your thoughts into the atmosphere. The universe is full of infinite possibilities and it’s sole purpose is to connect you to an array of experiences that matches your most specific desires. But, like a box of chocolates, you may be surprised at how your desire will come to fruition. 

Imagine another scenario, where you’re in the mood to finally manifest a new boo. You go on a few dating apps and are disgusted by the choices that are thwarted at you. With each swipe, you realize why the girlies say that the dating pool has pee in it. You try your luck at a few bars in your city, but all you get is broke boys and lustful losers. Eventually, you give up, apparently your soulmate died already. Perhaps your focus is in the wrong place? What if you took the time to set the intention to be aligned with your perfect partner. You listed out their strengths, qualities, and things you love about them. You allowed yourself to become immersed into the reality of being in a passionate relationship with this imaginary lover, and then went about your day. A few months later, you’re walking down aisle 3 of the grocery store and lock eyes with someone who you swear you know from a past life. You exchange smiles, then words, then numbers, and the rest is history.

I know you’re wondering, “How can EYE use The Observer Effect to manifest my dream life, Aurora?!” The key is to keep your eyes on the prize, grasshopper. Focus on what you DO love, and detach from what you don’t. If you weren’t already aware, perception creates reality. Here’s how to utilize your thoughts to mindfully create your reality:

  1. Set Your Intention

    First thing’s first: decide on your intention. Your intention is your desired outcome. If your intention was a destination, could you vividly picture how it would look? Where do you want to be in life? Who do you want to be? Why do you want this & what purpose does it serve? When do you intend to be in this desired timeline? Being intentional and specific about what experience you’d like the universe to deliver will help you to refine your energy and attune your thoughts accordingly. Don’t be afraid to let your inner child’s creative juices to flow fluidly through you here! The Observer Theory works best when you focus on what feels good.

  2. Address & Dissolve Your Limiting Beliefs

    I know you’re getting butterflies in your stomach and stars in your eyes as you imagine the feeling of having something you want to see come to fruition. You could also feel knots in your stomach from how anxious your intention makes you feel. Don’t worry, bad bitches are bound to get nervous every now and then. If there’s any doubt in your mind that you will not be able to receive what you want to perceive, dissolving limiting beliefs is as easy as doing some shadow work. Shadow work looks like confronting your fears, releasing your worries, and reframing your mind to know that the universe has your back. You can easily create the reality you want to observe when you operate from love and faith, not fear. 

  3. Main Character Mode

    The biggest takeaway of The Observer Effect is that YOUR observation is the power. What you focus on expands, and your attention is your currency! Practice “acting as if” you already have the experience that you desire. When you begin thinking from the perspective of your most fulfilled self- you will find that the world around you magically conforms to your beliefs. Remember those little atoms and electromagnetic thoughts we talked about earlier? As your mind is actively processing the positive energy that you feel towards your desire, it also begins to process itself into the quantum field around us. Don’t worry about HOW your desire will come into play- simply give gratitude that it’s already done and be open to receiving it in the most divine way. Stay ready so that you don’t have to get ready!
